Centenary Institute / University of Sydney
Clinical Professor Devanshi Seth is an internationally known leader in the field of liver disease and the founder of a unique Alcohol-related Liver Disease Research Program in Australia understanding the molecular pathogenesis of this disease. She established a multi-national GenomALC Consortium pioneering the genetic underpinnings of the disease and identifying novel risk variants. Funded through the National Institutes of Health and National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIH/NIAAA), USA, GenomALC developed genetic/polygenic risk score (GRS/PRS) algorithms that distinguish drinkers at high risk of cirrhosis, paving the way for the first time for early intervention and ‘prevention by precision’ through personalised and tailored management in this disease. Devanshi is also a champion, mentor and inspiring role model for diversity, equity and inclusion, making lasting reforms, improving workplace culture within her organisation and the wider health and medical research ecosystem.
